How to care for your orchid plant after delivery
‘Our orchid plants are sourced locally and carry the highest quality grade. Upon delivery, you’ll notice your plants have both open blooms and closed buds. To ensure your buds continue to grow and eventually bloom, keep your orchid plant away from drafty areas and air vents. The best place is usually in a sunny room with some humidity. For the first week after your orchid delivery, spritz water on both the closed buds and open blooms. After the first week, check the moss surrounding the plant roots for dryness. If it is bone dry, add enough water to moisten the moss surrounding the roots. Do not over water, as this can cause the roots to rot. Orchids plants like to be ‘moist” not “damp”.
How do you tell if your orchid plant has been over-watered?
If you notice the leaves turning yellow, this is a good indicator of over watering. If the leaves are shriveled with a wrinkled texture, then your plants is not getting enough water.
After your plant has been through the bloom stage where there are no more blooms remaining, remove it from the decorative container it was delivered in. Place in a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot and place outdoors in a semi-shaded area. For a low maintenance future, it’s best to tie the plant to a tree trunk. Over time, the roots will grow and latch onto the tree trunk. This method allows the orchid to live as a true air plant. It will get its nourishment from its natural environment. There’s no need to water or feed the plant, just enjoy future blooms for years to come!
